Step 1: Eligibility & Evaluation

Before starting Brixadi, a doctor will determine if you’re a good candidate:
✔ Diagnosed with moderate to severe opioid use disorder (OUD).
✔ Already stabilized on a buprenorphine-based medication (like Suboxone) for at least one dose.
✔ Looking for a long-acting treatment instead of daily medication.

Step 2: Induction Phase – Starting Buprenorphine

Before starting Brixadi, you must first take a single dose of daily buprenorphine (Suboxone) to make sure you tolerate it.
This helps prevent precipitated withdrawal when switching to the injection.

Step 3: First Brixadi Injection

Your doctor will give Brixadi as an injection under the skin (subcutaneous) in the buttock, thigh, stomach, or upper arm.
The injection forms a slow-release depot that gradually releases buprenorphine over time.

Step 4: Choosing the Right Dose Schedule

Brixadi comes in two options:

✔ Weekly Injection (For Flexible Dosing)

Used for patients who need more gradual stabilization.
Weekly doses: 8 mg, 16 mg, 24 mg, or 32 mg.
Allows easier dose adjustments if needed.

✔ Monthly Injection (For Long-Term Maintenance)

Used for patients already stable on buprenorphine.
Monthly doses: 64 mg, 96 mg, or 128 mg.
Ideal for long-term craving and withdrawal control.

Step 5: Maintenance & Long-Term Treatment

✔ Patients can continue weekly injections or transition to monthly once stabilized.
✔ Doctors may adjust the dose based on cravings and withdrawal symptoms.
